Canada

I feel Canada is the greatest country in the world to live in. There are many reasons to be proud of our country.

The people of Canada enjoy many freedoms. Because of the freedom of religion, I can belong to a church of my choice. Because of the freedom of speech, I can express my opinions on whatever I choose. Because of economic freedom, I can buy what I like, and live where I choose. Immigrants find this quality a reason to come to Canada. In the Auschwitz concentration camp of Poland, Canada had a special meaning. It was the name given to the camp barracks where food, clothes, gold, diamonds, jewelry and other goods taken from prisoners were stored. It represented life, luxury and salvation. It was unreachable to them. Today, Canada is still thought of as that impossible dream.

Canada is a safe and peaceful country to live in. Our society is nonviolent; guns don't control our streets. Outside of the country, Canada participates in peace keeping efforts with the United Nations. Canada's men and women serve in dangerous situations around the world to help other countries sort out their problems. The government and people strive to keep Canada a safe and equal place to live in.

Canada has a blend of socialism and capitalism which provides for a stable government. This is uncommon in the world today. We have a helpful and working health care system, which benefits all people.

I'm very proud of the heritage of our country, which was founded on loyalty. The first inhabitants of Canada, who were the real founders of the country have a strong voice today, and those are native peoples. They are listened to by the government. There are many different races and ethnic backgrounds represented in Canada. It is difficult for people who originate from many backgrounds and races, to work together, but Canada manages to do it. Canada does this by forming a mosaic out of its peoples.

I feel pride in Canada when our country wins at sporting events, or makes a discovery or advancement in technology. It is encouraging to realize the opportunities that I have as a citizen of Canada, both job wise and culturally. I find that Canadians are humble people, we don't brag about our country like our neighbours down south. But we certainly have reason to. For the future, I envision a Canada continuing its success with the youth of today carrying on the traditions that have brought us to 1992.

I pledge my loyalty to the country of Canada. I will make a commitment to support Canada in all it's efforts - inside and outside of the country. I hope Canada will stay as Canada - with it's ten provinces and two territories intact.

The motto of Canada is in Latin on the coat of arms. It is "A Marie Usque ad Marie", which in English is "From sea to sea". The motto is taken from Psalm 72 - "He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth." (King James version) This leads me to a closing prayer which I wrote for Canada.

"Oh eternal and loving Father, Lord over all the earth, keep watch and dominion over Canada. You created this beautiful land - the mountains, the water, the plants and the animals. Help us to take care of your creation by using it properly. Lord, you have put many different peoples in the land of Canada, help us to realize that we are all special. Help us to care for each other, and have respect for each other. Please help all those people in need in Canada and that they may be helped by the compassion of others. Help the people of Canada to realize that You are the one and true saviour, and that through you all things can be made possible. Preserve us from the dangers of the enemy, and the violence of the world. Keep us in your care. I pray that we may evermore dwell in You, and You in us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
