The Dominion Institute was founded in 1997 by a group of young people concerned about the decline of history as a core subject in schools and by the public perception of the country's past as academic and boring.

Over the last four years, the Dominion Institute has focused its efforts on conducting original research into Canadians' knowledge of the country's past and building innovative programs - like the LaFontaine-Baldwin Lecture - that broaden appreciation of the richness and complexity of the Canadian story.

Visit www.thememoryproject.com to read stories of Canada's military history written by veterans and students from across Canada, go to www.passagestocanada.com to find out more about the Dominion Institute's immigration project, or take part in an annual $2000 history essay competition at www.greatquestions.com.
