Why is Operation Dialogue holding this contest?
- The Mission of our organization is to get Canadians to talk about Canada - we feel that this will lead to a greater understanding of who we are and a stronger sense of ourselves as citizens. We hope the information you will see in the questions will start that dialogue.
- We believe that history should be fun and exciting.
- We believe that by teaching Canadians their own history they will develop a stronger sense of identity and a greater ability to participate in important discussions.
Where does Operation Dialogue get its funding?
We are a charity and get our funding from private donations. We have no commercial sponsors or government funding but expect to raise funds from the government or the private sector in the future as long as that does not compromise our independence.
How do students get the questionnaire?
This will be an Internet contest only. There will be no paper forms and no "application" as such. Students will access the questionnaire through our web site and will answer the questions on line. They will need to register and provide an individual email address in order to participate.
Will Students' privacy be protected?
Yes. Their information will be protected. We will request only the information that will allow us to identify and contact the winners. We will use emails to contact students on contest related issues such as passwords, announcements of winners, information about individual scores, and offers of prizes or gifts. We may email students about new projects sponsored by Operation Dialogue but we will give them the opportunity to remove their address from our mailing list. We will not permit others access to the addresses.
Can minors participate?
Yes. Many students who are graduating are minors. If students are underage we will ask them to indicate whether they have permission from their parents to participate and will inform them that they will not eligible to win unless they have it. Their parents will have to sign a consent form in order for the student to receive the prize.
Why do students need a password?
Students don't have to answer all the questions at one time if they don't want to and can change answers later if they wish. Therefore we do not want other students being able to access their answer forms. If the student forgets the password we will be able to mail it to them at their private email address.
When will students learn who has won?
Students will be able to find out whether they have won by logging back into their account after 6:00 EST, Friday February 29,2008.Certain legal requirements will have to be fulfilled, but we expect to be able to announce the winners by the end of the week following the close of the contest.
Can university students, college students, graduate students, part-time students, or students at other post-secondary institutions participate?
Yes - as long as they are Canadians or permanent residents.
Can I participate if my school is not registered?
Yes. You are welcome and it will make no difference to your chances.
Can I participate if I am being home-schooled?
Yes - as long as you plan to use the scholarship for a qualified post-secondary institution.
Can I do the quiz for fun?
Yes, but please indicate that you are not eligible for a scholarship.
Can I be any age?
Yes - if you are planning on going to a post-secondary institution in September 2008.
What is "registered school"?
