The Pledge to Canada Program

A pledge package was developed and sent to 16,000 schools across Canada asking students to submit an expression of their pride in Canada.  The response was a landslide of letters, posters and pictures, poetry, essays, videos, songs, craft projects and pledges.  We now take great pride in presenting a web site for Canadians in the hope that it will inspire an ongoing sense of who we are and why we should be Proud To Be Canadian.

Many themes emerged in the children's pledges: multiculturalism, racial harmony, freedom from oppression and discrimination, recognition of the magnificence and diversity of our land and our need to care for it, our good fortune to be living in peace and even a celebration of "national" symbols such as the Blue Jays.

We hope that taking the time to think about what Canada means to them will have an ongoing effect in their lives and cause them to take on the responsibility of caring for Canada.

The comments we received from many of the wonderful teachers who spearheaded projects in their schools showed that the project was exciting and inspirational and that the future of Canada is in good hands.
